Hmm ... last-minute gift? I'm not really a last-minute gal. I usually plan ahead, and I like to make fabric gift bags for any gifts I give, making sure to choose a fabric that suits the recipient:)

I have to say all my gifts are last minute, infact I should be making a last minute quilt right now, but am procrastinating again!! But if it's really down to the wire I'll make a bag... good for anyone really, especially if you pop a favourite magazine and a block of chocolate in.

My favorite last minute give is going to depend obviously on what it's for; Baby stuff would be a matching bib and burp cloth with possibly a receiving blanket ~ all matching with machine embroidery on them as well. Anything else would be dish towels with machine embroidery on them and fabric at the bottom below the embroidery.

My fav last minute gift for a baby is a one yard baby quilt from Last Minute Patchwork and Quilted gifts. But for adults, I really like to make simple drawstring bags out of fat quarters, and then put some homemade jam and a jar of local honey in it, even bread if it hasn't been too hot too cook

Here is my comment with my answer to your question... I don't know! I am just getting started into sewing again, and have only previously made clothes for my daughter and a little for myself. I think coasters and/or hot pads or something of the sort would be a quick and easy gift. Maybe bags if I find the best pattern... we shall see, but winning this fabric would certainly help! :)

My favorite thing - which also works well as a "last minute" - is to make new mom's some super fun burp clothes... usually I buy a 12 pack of the supreme Gerber thick prefolds, wash them and store them until someone I know is "expecting"... then I grab some fabrics from my stash... follow instructions here and voila!

It kind of depends on the person, but I like the Pencil Roll pattern from Pink Chalk Studio and have had good luck using recycle designer fabrics from fabmo.org. Tote bags, even for non-sewing people are usually a hit.

It depends a bit on how last minute it is ... For a really quick project I like appliquéd tea towels and/or coasters. I also like the zippered pouch and fabric basket à la Pink Penguin.
