So what to do on this beautiful California afternoon? Perhaps it is finally time to take a look at this adorable book by Alice Caroline titled Sew Pretty for Little Girls. Our whole business began because our fearless leader was trying to find modern prints for her boys. We've come a long way since then and it's quite fitting that we keep putting our kids first as we venture on to new and great things. This week we had the privilege of being able to review Alice Caroline's book, which was written for the little girls in our lives. As crafters, we have a special ability to pass our skills and down to the next generation. This book is a great way in which to do just that!
Now, before getting started, I must admit one thing: I'm no mother and I have no children. However, I do have 6 nieces and nephews that are all below the age of 5. I know right? I took a moment from my busy college life to take a second to review this book and think about my nieces (Soph, Stella, and Rashel) and consider how much they would love to get their little hands on some of the projects featured in this adorable book.
From the very beginning, the book oozes inspiration. I know some of us sometimes like to overlook the introduction or preface of a book, but I urge you not to pass up the introduction to this book. Just from reading it I felt a sudden urge to actually sew the quilt I've been putting off for months. Alice encourages her readers to find inspiration in other's work and not be afraid to experiment. So have at it girlies!
In some books, I've noticed that some authors like to tell us how to make an item, but fail to give us a list of the equipment and tools we'll need. Not in this book! Right at the beginning, Alice gives us a complete list of all the tools used in creating her projects. Thanks so much! Finally!
The instructions are simple and easy to follow with cute little illustrations with plenty of tips and recommendations. Tips like how to scale down a quilt or like the one pictured below.
I just know that kids who can sew their way through this book, will feel comfortable and proficient in their sewing skills to follow lots of other patterns too!
Isn't this pillow just the cutest? Maybe I'll have my niece make me one :)
But wait, it gets even better...
For those of you who are super interested...and that should be the majority of you :), the projects include making a quilt, pillows, dresses, curtains, purse, doll, and so much more!
I hope that I have been able to peak your interest in this adorable little book. It's full of cute projects for your little one and includes nifty templates and a technique section showing the proper way to sew.
