I'm the same as comment #1 - I always loved the Velveteen Rabbit.
I had this giant book of children's stories... I loved the Little Mermaid and Cinderella and Rapunzel stories in it (very few similarities with the Disney version!)
I loved the Noddy stories, and the pictures were so cute!

Favourite childhood story would probably be The Black Cauldron book series by Lloyd Alexander - Taran, Eilonwy, Fflewddur Flam, Gurgi, Dallben, Coll, Prince Gwydion...

Adventure! Mythology! Growing up! And, of course, Eilonwy was awesome.

My favourite book was 'Floddertje' by Annie M.G. Schmidt, a dutch writer. It was about a girl who was very clumsy and always very dirty... with the most beautiful illustrations of Fiep Westendorp. Check it out! :) And everything of Richard Scary. (Still love those illustrations)

I am from the UK so you may not know mine... it's the Wooden Tops (yes I am old!) if you Google it there is a video..they were wooden puppets and my favourite was Spotty the dog. Now you have made me feel ancient!! Linda

My favourite book was The Enchanted Wood by Enid Blyton, the first of the Faraway Tree series. As I got older I read all her Famous Five and Secret Seven book too. Great stories :-) I've recently started buying them for my own kids too.

I was such a major book worm as a kid and I still am - no way to pick my favorite story. A few I really loved tho:

clifford the big red dog - I always wanted a dog that was bigger than my house! :)

mrs. frisby and the rats of nimh

The wainscott weasel

and o so many more - I always loved books about animals or with animals as the main characters, I had a hard time reading books about people for the longest time lol.
It's a tie between Charlotte's Web (Splendid!) and My Father's Dragon (just plain magical :))

We lived in an old house when I was younger, and there was a giant cupboard in my bedroom-big enough for my sisters and I to sit inside with a flashlight and read together. We loved Roald Dahl--especially James and the Giant Peach. That has always been a favorite!

My favourite story has to be Dr. Seuss Green Eggs and Ham. I think I still have an original copy of the book.
Mine was a book called Beautiful Joe. It was about an abused dog who is rescued and becomes a much-loved pet. It had a tremendous impact on my life.

My favorite childhood story was Pippi Longstocking. I have long red hair and often had my mom braid my hair in two braids and she would use a coat hanger to make them stick straight out (it did make going through doorways a bit challenging)

I lived right across the street from the Public Library and practically lived there! Every few nights I would bring home as much as I could carry... and that evening my mom would read them to me (even when I was old enough to read on my own!) It was our special time.
