I love to sew because of all the pretty colours and fabrics, so that I can surround myself with pretty things, for that sense of achievement you get when you finally finish a project.

I recently took up sewing again. We are waiting on the arrival of our first baby, due in October, and about a month and a half ago I just had the urge to sew for the little guy (it's the "nesting" I've heard so much about!). I started with a baby quilt...and now have project after project piled onto each other. But I am "sew" happy to be able to create and make things for our little man!!
Rie said…
I think sewing makes me happy because I get to cut into a perfectly good piece of material and (hopefully) turn it into something even more special.

Sewing makes me sew happy, especially when things turn out the way they are supposed to. (I also 'learned' to 'cuss' while using a sewing machine... LOL) My husband tells me he likes to watch me sew; that he can see such a look of 'happy' on my face. :o)

I was diagnosed with general anxiety disorder a few years ago. It rendered me nearly paralyzed. A combo of therapy and medication helped get me back up and moving, working and even creating things. I've since been able to keep up sewing as a major anxiety reliever and quit the medications over a year and a half ago.

Sewing, fabrics, textures, creating things with my hands makes me SEW happy and has helped me lead a fulfilled and much less anxious life. My therapist and doctor couldn't be more pleased with the results and neither could my friends and family members who receive gifts handmade by me, with love.

I sew for several reasons- I enjoy & like being a part of making chrity quilts. It must be a stress reliever b/c I get grumpy if I haven't been able to get to my sewing room (I'm grumpy right now)-
The mere fact that it is an outlet for exercising some creativity also works wonders for my overall well being.
Janet said…
It is definitely a hobby for me and I fit it into my free time because it makes me feel accomplished and creative. Hand sewing is very relaxing for me too.

I know grades aren't everything, but they always felt like a validation of my knowledge. Now that I'm no longer in school, I don't ever know if what I'm doing is correct, there's nothing that can put a label on what I do. With sewing, I have deliverables. When I finish a project I feel so accomplished, and the compliments I receive are even better validation than any grade!
