Fabricworm is celebrating our 2 Year Anniversary with a Giveaway of Cosmo Cricket Early Bird! Pardon Diatribe

Hi Friends and Family,

Fabricworm has just celebrated our 2 year anniversary! It's been a long road to get here. But we've managed and business is better than ever.

Thanks to our loyal fans and following, we've managed to accomplish a lot in these 2 short years. This year we saw the launch of our very own fabric line, a 100% organic line of quilting cottons under our Birch Fabrics label, Circa 50 designed by Jennifer Moore of Monaluna This was a huge accomplishment for so many reasons.

When I started Fabricworm, the first question out of my mouth with every new Fabric Rep that I met was, "Are they offering any printed organic cottons"? Again and again, I got the exact same response. I was so frustrated. It seemed that the manufacturers just haven't been able to understand not only the demand, but more importantly the impact that offering organic cottons could have on our eco system. With roughly 25% of all pesticides used in agriculture, being used on cotton fields, it seems logical that a shift is clearly needed in how we grow our cotton. Or else? I don't know about everyone else, but I'd like my future grandchildren to meet their future grandchildren. At the rate we are chemically poisoning our agriculture, it's not clear as to whether or not that is possible.

I encourage everyone to contact their favorite quilting cotton manufacturers, and tell them that you want to see more organic options! Surely if they existed, we at Fabricworm would buy them!

What's on the horizon for Fabricworm?

This November/December we will see the launch of two new collections, "Marine" by Dan Stiles

and Circa 60 Beach Mod, a follow up to Circa 50 by Jennifer Moore of Monaluna

So, Thanks for listening, enough babble.

For the giveaway we are offering the complete collection of Early Bird by Cosmo Cricket in fat quarters, 12 in total.

But we need your help! We are going to be working on a redesign of the website so to enter, please tell us how we can make Fabricworm a more enjoyable shopping experience. What would you like to see in our store? What do you wish we would change about our site? Whatever comes to mind, your input if so important to us!

Please only 1 entry per person.

The Random Generator will choose a winner on Monday June 28th @ 9am PST. So please have your entry in by then.

Thank You and Good Luck!

***UPDATE****

Thank you for all the amazing suggestions! I'm really enjoying reading every one of them. If you by chance are reading we've already made a few updates:

1. We've now made it so that you can see that a fabric is out of stock before clicking on it.

2. We have a "view all" section for the fabrics, this actually already existed, but for those that didn't notice it.

3. Some of you requested full yard sets, and I just wanted to note that all of the sets are available as 1/2 yards, full yards, 1.5 yards, or even 2 yards as long as we have enough stock on hand. You just enter based on a 1/2 yard. For instance if you want a full yard of each print, you would enter 2 in the quantity box.:)

4. Some of you have probably already noticed this, but we have added a section for Fat Quarters, so that's sorta' new.

5. We unfortunately have a really hard time with the measurement issue, because we use stock photos from the manufacturers and they often don't have a measuring tape, and because they don't use a set size for each picture, to put a ruler with the photo would mean editing of every single fabric, I'm afraid we haven't been able to find the time to do this, but maybe in the future we will find a way.

6. Oh and we now made it so that the pattern section is "view all". So no more multiple pages to click through.

7. I know there is something else, but I can't think of it. Maybe I will remember later. Thanks and keep on posting!

Aw I remember, lots of new solids are on the way, including Robert Kaufman Kona Solids and Organic Solids

I second the solids and on-line matching section where you can see what you've selected. Love the selection of Japanese prints.

It's hard to say what to imporve on. I love everything you do. The preselected sets are great! Maybe you could put a gallery of top picks on your sidebar or something - wait! do you already have that?

Keep up the awesome work!

I love that you now offer fat quarters!
I'd love to see solids incorporated into your bundles, and more coupon codes or sales would be wonderful!

Love love love the selection you offer here - my local fabric stores are pitiful. Love the new Birch lines coming later in the year too! Will have to pick some of that up. As for suggestions - perhaps the option to search for coordinating/matching fabrics (hard to tell with on-line pics if colours are true or not), and also additional (cheaper) shipping options to Canada. It would also be nice to see what shipping will be prior to getting almost all the way through the check out process. Thanks for the great patterns and choices... I drool on my key board every time I visit the site!!!!

I'd love to see fabrics sorted a little more the way other fabric sites do. You already have "children" but what about "in the kitchen" or "animals" etc.? Thanks for the chance to win some fabric! Happy Birthday!!

I love your fabrics. I´d like to see Fabric Quarter Bundles in different colors for example bundle with fabrics black and white.

Love your shop! I agree with many of the others - it would be great to see more solids. Thanks!

Congratulations on your two year anniversary AND your fabulous line of organic cotton. I love it!

What I would love to see is a 'view all' of a collection where I could put in how many yards per fabric and then hit a single button on the bottom to select all the fabrics I wanted. You do a GREAT job and you can just sign me up for notification for the 'Marine' set of fabrics in November!!!

Awesome news! I would like to see my account and past purchases on the new site. Congrats!!

Congratulations on 2 years and on the exciting Birch Fabrics lines!

I love perusing the wares on Fabricworm.com -- the only problem I ever had was that it was difficult to know when something was out of stock. So I'm thrilled that you asked for feedback and acted on it! Fabricworm is the best! :D

Hi,
Firstly I want to say that I really, really love Fabricworm. I am very happy with all of the fabric I have received from you and I just love the fabrics you carry; they are amazing! I also very much appreciate your commitment to the environment with your push for organic cotton. Shopping on your website has been a real pleasure. You have already made a change to remedy the problem that I had noticed (being able to see that a fabric is unavailable before clicking on it). So, the only other thing I can think of is perhaps you would consider also adding an image from each collection to the 'search by collection page'.
Happy anniversary!

Count me in fo the giveaway and knowing if a product is out of stock before clicking is the best improvement!

I LOVE your shop and thank you for always going the extra mile with my orders. I'd like to see a section showing what customers have made with all your beautiful fabric. It's always really inspiring to see what others have come up with and great for sharing ideas. Thanks again and happy anniversary! Jane x

I love your website, and based on your updates, I don't know if I have any suggestions! In the past I've had a hard time just viewing one whole line of fabrics on the page, but I think you've addressed that issue. So, all I have to say is, Fabricworm rocks!
And, my oh my, I would LOVE to win that FQ stack! :)

I know you already mentioned this, but it is essential to see the size of the print before purchasing, as this can make all the difference of a finished project! I would also love to see an option to blow up the image from the main page, without having to click the fabric, and then enlarge image. Also something at checkout that calculates and tells you the total measurements, not just 4 quantities of 1/2 yard this, which is simple but can be confusing, especially when you are not paying too much attention! I would looove to see a section where customers can submit photos of finished projects using their Fabricworm.com purchases! I love Fabricworm.com and the amazing selection of quality designer prints, you have my service and money regardless! =)
blissmama said…
Yeah - the measurement thing is unfortunate, I'd love to see the the actual size of the patterns. Also I'd love to be able to see a larger picture of the fabric - sometimes a large design is not even recognizable within that little circle... otherwise I love your selection of fabrics!
Britney said…
I think it would be nice to have some kind of place that shows different combinations of fabrics that look good together and complement each other. I like to buy in sets and it's a lot easier if there are sets already put together by you. Or maybe a feature that for each fabric you can ask to see matching ones. Something like that!
Andrea said…
Oh, I had no idea the birch fabrics are yours! How cool is that! I am in love with the Circa 60!!

As far as the site goes, ummm...... more solids knits :D
megf said…
A way to see how much of a fabric is in stock, and how about reserving or pre-order on "coming soon" fabrics?
Anonymous said…
Love the new fabrics you have coming up.

What do I want...mmmmm......I like to buy bundles of fabric as sometimes you cant work out the combos yourself off of pictures...so more of your bundles would be good.
Ann-Marie said…
I love the addition of the Fat Quarter packs! keep them coming, that's how I love to build my stash!
I agree with someone elses comment of adding in some coordinating solids to your fabulous stacks!
thanks for the GREAT customer service!
WesternWilson said…
Cynthia, I depend on your fab fabric matching eye...one nice feature might be a customizable bundle order setup, where the customer chooses a focus fabric, and your site leads them through a set of choices to create a custom bundle. Ie. choose focus, then it asks you to choose two blenders (the array of choices having been selected by you, Cynthia!), which in turn (depending on the blenders chosen), offers a successive choice of coordinated prints. Something like that could be really fun. I thought of this when I was looking at the Richelieu.com drawer box ordering system, which leads you through your choices, with visuals. Love your shop!
Congratulations on 2 years!! Did you know that traditionally the 2nd anniversary is celebrated with cotton?!?

I would prefer a shopping cart where you can see all the thumbnails at once instead of scrolling. I like to see how the fabrics go together. Is there an option for a second window or a way to expand the window of the current shopping cart.

I love your fabric!! I actually made my 1st purchase from Fabric Worm as I am new to the "fabric world"!! :) And loved what I got, how fast it came and even the gal who called me was so friendly to tell me you were out of a fabric that was in the bundle I ordered and she made a recomendation, and I was SO PLEASED! Thank you for starting fabric worm, and helping people like me, who still don't know how to compile "cute funky fabrics" together to make an awesome quilt!! You guys rock! Oh! And I just LOVE the Cosmo Cricket Early Bird Fabric, and can't wait unitl the Beach Circa 50 fabric comes out this fall!! Super cute for boys!! :) I always love to see the fabric bundles...so keep making them cute for us!! :) HUGS!

I can't get enough of FQ sets because I am building my stash of new fun fabrics. I would love to see more "custom" combos of coordinating colors. You see them in person and can see what works together. I love your website! I've only ordered once from Etsy, but was so pleased with the service that I have you as one of my favorite sources of fabric. Congrats on 2 years!!
Jodi said…
I agree with the suggestion of custom bundles with solids! Normally I have to order my print fabric then order the solids after I get my prints because I use my Kona Card with fabric in hand to make my decisions about which colors to use. But having someone with a great eye for color add solids into a bundle would save so much time!
Unknown said…
Some way of pattern matching would be very helpful, even just a link at the bottom of the page to prints or solids that you stock that match the one I'm looking at would be great
megan.futo said…
I love love love the fabric bundles, it takes a lot of work out of the quilting process. They only things that could make it even better would be more fabric bundles :) and it would be nice if there were some sub catergoies in the fabric bundles section, such as girl bundles, boy bundles, or color sub categories. Love the site and will continue to shop no matter what happens.
Anonymous said…
I was thinking about the out of stock too :) thanks!
Nan said…
Even if you can't have a measuring tape on the thumbnails, could you mention the size of the repeats if that is possible (for example the traveling gnomes are soo much bigger than I expected and I couldn't use that fabric for the project I'd purchased it for - though of course I found another project for it!). Also, I totally love the Cosmo Cricket Early Bird collection. I'm all for more like this.
Jacey said…
Awesome prize! I've enjoyed being your customer. You've always got a great selection.
Someone may have already mentioned this, but often I'll click on a selection and it's sold out. Is there a way to remove the sold out item from selection, or have it grayed out, perhaps?
Sooz said…
I love your shop! Measurements on fabrics would be helpful, and maybe bigger thumbnails, but I love it just the way it is! Congrats on 2 years.
Silly Buddy said…
Fabricworm is the best when it comes to browsing through. My one huge suggestion was to please have the Out of stock notice on the fabric display page but I see that you have already solved this problem and I am sooo happy about it :)
As much I love shopping online, shopping in person has always been safer because I can match colors with different fabrics. Perhaps if there was a platform on your website where the fabrics can be placed to see how they look together. (I might be going too far with this :)

Overall, I love fabricworm - Most of the time I don't even know what I'm looking for - but whatever it turns out to be, you guys always have it :)
Janet said…
Thanks so much for your efforts to get organic cotton to us quilt makers. I have been enquiring about it here in Canada and met with a brick wall.
I wonder whether bamboo fabric might be another possibility?
Your website is one of my absolute favourites!
Bry said…
I would like it if when you hit add to cart you can click the back button to keep shopping without it removing said item from your cart instead of clicking 'keep shopping'.

It's the same number of clicks with a mouse but it would just be a bit easier to have another option.
kelly said…
Congratulations on the anniversary! All of my interactions with both sites (etsy and store site) have been smooth -- I just wish I could buy more fabric. I agree with someone who posted above that I would like larger, square pics of the fabric swatches.
Well darn--my suggestion was going to be the whole thing about seeing something is out of stock before clicking thing. Oh well. Does it still count that it was my only gripe about the site?? :)
Also, a design wall would be a neat feature--I know fabric.com has one that works really well and I've often wished your site had something similar since you stock more fun fabric .
Stacy said…
Congrats on 2 years! I like seeing finished products using the fabric. I also like knowing how much is left in stock before I start placing my order. I love your site and I love the giveaway collection - Thank you for the opportunity!!
Unknown said…
I buy almost all my fabric from this site. It would be nice to have some sort of wish list or page where the fabrics that you chose could be moved around the page so you could mix/match your colour combinations, rather than sending everything into the shopping cart first.
Kathy said…
Hi~

I absolutely love your site. You are always the first one I go to when looking for fun funky fabric! The only thing that I would change is the "out of stock" issue and it's been solved already :)

Looking forward to your new Birch Fabric line too!
Unknown said…
Love the great service here. It would be great if there was an option to add fabrics to liked to a wish list before making your final selection.
Lisa Olson said…
Well, I love your shop, but I would say a larger selection of women's clothing patterns - and sometimes it is helpful to have suggested fabrics to go with a pattern.
Lisa said…
Can you make it so after you add a selection to your cart, that you go back to the page you were shopping on instead of the individual fabric where you clicked "Add to Cart"? I get tired of having to go 2 pages back to get to where I was to continue shopping. But I love your site and your service.

I have only purchased once from you, but I love your store, and I love your products. I even put your animated button on my blog site! I love your approach to organics, and I really like that, when you saw that there weren't enough organic fabrics out there, you made your own! Awesome. Congratulations on your anniversary, and I look forward to more shopping in your store. Thanks for the giveaway.

I love fabricworm, you have such a great selection! I would love to see more soft knits for making kids clothes. I love the Japanese designs, and organic. I, too, wish for more organic cottons to choose from, and sometimes get sucked into buying non organic because of the gorgeous prints. The scale of the prints would be helpful too. Thank you!
Bronwyn said…
What about featuring items eg clothing, bags etc made with the particular fabric viewed? - this helps to give sewers an idea of pattern scale and colour combos.
Valerie said…
Larger swatches of fabric maybe? Otherwise, I love your site! And oh how I would love to win that Cosmo Cricket!
AngelaK said…
What I would like to see on your website is when you click on an image, it would come up as like a quick view instead of having to click on it and it come up in a new window or in the same window. I hope you understand what I mean. lol

I love your fabric stacks, but I really don't have anything to add to everyone else's very good suggestions.

I love the fresh, clean look of your website and visit often.

Congratulations on two years and on the organic line! It took me a really long time to look at the children's fabrics because each time I clicked on one and then went back to the main page, I had to start at the beginning again and scroll down to find where I had been. Is there a way to go back to where you were in the previous page? Maybe the specific fabric info. could open in a new window or page so you don't lose your place on the main page?
Jeanne said…
I would find it helpful if the site kept track of my previous purchases.
Shelly said…
Thanks for the great fabric. I love your fabrics. I have ordered from you and your service is great. I am from Canada and we pay so much more and the availablity of fabrics is limited. Thanks again and happy anniversary.
You're already working on the two things I would have suggested-- more organic lines and the ability to see that a fabric is out of stock before clicking on it. Way to go!
Jen said…
I too love your fabric stacks. I have fallen in love with many of them! As for your website...I've always liked how it was. Very easy!
Congrats on 2 years!!

Congratulations on 2 successful years! I love your store, one of my absolute favourites. You always have the designs and colourways that I love.

I would love to see (and love to see that has been fixed!) if a fabric is out of stock before I try ordering it.

I'd also love to see some plain linens to coordinate with your beautiful fabrics, as I do find these very difficult to source.

It would also be great to see some luscious, thick organic wool felts in modern colourways.

But all in all I love your beautiful, crisp design of your shop, and can't wait to see the see it evolve even more.

Thank you!
Karen said…
Yay for having the 'out of stock' message show before you get into lookin at (and coveting!) the fabric.
I find it really hard to locate what I want when I use the "Fabric by collection" page.
Maybe make the name of each collection in a different colour - or sort by collection name...
Catherine said…
I love your custom bundles and hope to see even more in the future. They are such a huge help in planning projects. Also, sometimes it's nice to browse fabrics by color group. Thanks for a lovely shop and great service!

You have a great store and site. I would wish for more fat quarter sets, if I had to change something.
Thanks for the chance to win.

Love the website and love your fabrics - keep doing what you are doing.. I espically love the fat quarter bundles you put together. It makes me want to buy them all ! Maybe in the 'sale' section, have the reduced price in another colour as the blue is hard to read - say have the orginal price in red and sale in black or vice versa.

fabric packs are great
Congratulations!!
Love your shop. Small suggestion, though, to put a coin next to the fabric photo, so one can measure the size of the print.
Thank you for the giveaway!!

I love everything! I almost hate to go to the site because I see so many things that I want and that means more sewing for me. I like to see different fabrics from different lines but together. We do not have a really good fabric store where I live so it makes my life a lot easier. Looking forward to the Birch line>

My suggestion has already been donr (having the out of stock listed straight away).

I'd love to see some more printed corduroy fabric (it's always winter somewhere!)

Love your shop!

Love your new fabrics!

Love this giveaway!

I would like to see a bulk discount, or if someone like my self who has a business could get some wholesale pricing, that would be great.
I'm extraordinarily cheap, and I also have a use for small bits of fabric, so I'd love to see a kind of "cutting room floor" grab bag option; maybe by colors, in sizes to fit in flat-rate packaging.

Love your shop... thanks for the chance to win!
Anonymous said…
Congratulations! I love your site! One thing that could be added... it would be useful to know if a fabric is in stock from the bigger search page (maybe under the price?) - that way you don't have to click to the fabric page only to be very sad when you find out it's not in stock!

I've been really thrilled with your customer service (especially following a mix up with my order). I really love your mixed fabric stacks. However, I'd love to be able to assemble my own FQ/0.5/1 yard sets with a discount. For instance, choose 5 FQs and get a 6th at a discount. Thanks!

Congratulations on entering year 3! I'm new to fabricworm, and I don't have anything to add (I always look for shipping fees first to make sure a new-to-me retailer isn't fleecing Canadians).

I just read your update and am happy to see that 'out of stock' items will be more clearly marked. I love your shop and you have such wonderful, friendly customer service. In fact, I'm so impressed that you are even taking the time to hear/read all this feedback and are so quickly making changes! Fantastic! The only other thing on my wish list is for more shipping options for international (I'm from Canada) orders.. While the flat rate is great for bigger purchases, it's a bit much for a yard of fabric or a pattern.
Happy Anniversary!!
