Here it is folks, I'm a little weak in the knees right now. Feel very naked, a little scared, a little sick, but mainly Super Freakin' Excited!!!!

Circa 50 by Monaluna for Birch Fabrics, 100% Organic

So now you've seen the prints, and I really need your help. I've already been conceptualizing the next line, but I thought it would be fun to get some feedback. Tell me what you think of when you think of the "Sixties". Does British Mod excite you? Or maybe you are into the The Freedom Loving vibe. Tell me, I really want your opinion! (Okay I just have to add one more, what about the California 60's theme, gidget, vintage trailers, palm trees, bon fires, stars as far as the eye can see, sunny breaks on the waves, oh no, I think I've got a whole new line in my head. LOL)

3 Lucky Winners will receive 1 yard cuts from the entire collection. That's 12 yards each. Pretty Awesome right! But to sweetin' the deal even more, you will also be the first people who will receive the fabric, not a single manufacturer or retailer will have the fabric before you. So you will be able to brag to all your friends, maybe make some really fun items to inspire others, I see a flickr pool don't you?

To be entered in the drawing you will simply comment on this post answering the question above. This Giveaway will end 1 week from today on September 4th at 9am PST. We will announce the winners the same day @ 12pm PST.

Prizes will ship when the bulk delivery of fabric arrives sometime in Mid January of 2010. I know it's a long time to wait. But I promise it will be worth the wait!

so fun! i'm all for the california vintage...

What a wonderful collection! Congratulations! My nieces say I did'nt save anything "good" from the 60's, so I'm probably not the best to comment. But I think of the whole flower child thing of long straight hair and flowing skirts. Of British Mod, I think miniskirts, tall white boots, and pale blue eyeliner.
MishaLynn said…
60's what is that... just kidding I don't really think of much when I think of the 60's however, I really love your California Idea! "Sunny Breaks on the wave" this statement makes me get excited!

I really like the Woodland Chain and Starbusrt!!! Congrats, I wish you all the luck on the next round!

i think british mode is a good idea for a fabric line!
but i am sure that any thing you'll chose will look great.
thanks for the giveaway!

Ooooh! I'd love to see a 60's British Mod line. But then again, 60's California style would be great too! I was born in the 50s, and grew up in the 60's and 70's, so this retro-fever stuff is sooo great!
OMG... I LOVE the chairs and woodland creatures! They are all so fantastic though!

I love the idea of vintage trailers and palm trees..... so FREAKING cute.
Joy said…
Congratulations on your beautiful and fun fabric line! I would vote for your next one being British Mod.
Woodland friends are so so darling. Makes me think of the Scardey Squirrel. 60's makes me think of long daisy chain necklaces and buckskin vests with lots of fringes.
The1stdaughter said…
I love these! The cars and space designs are my favorites. And I love the British Mod idea. This is such a great idea, way to go and good luck with it!
Jessica Levitt said…
I say british mod all the way. Although gidget and trailers is intriguing.

Great collection. Hmmm, let's see, in the '60s it was straight skirts, sometimes still full skirts and petticoats. And because I'm in extreme Southern California, it was Surfing, skateboards, the beach, and Beatles haircuts!

Keep up the good work!
Jane said…
wow what a beautiful range!

my favourite is definately the trees, but also the space one - ooh I'm getting excited just writing about which ones I like!!

British Mod sounds right to me, although I don't think it matters what you name it - these fabrics are gonna walk off the shelf!

Love the California 60's idea. Surfboards, hibiscus flowers (in orange, please), old fashioned woodie station wagons.

The designs and colors look great! I'm glad you have the rockets, cars, and beaded designs that will look good on items for boys. Good luck with it all!
johanna said…
wow, gorgeous prints - I love them all.

To answer the question I'm rather partial to the British Mod era, it reminds me of the fashions in the tv series Get Smart.
Patricia said…
WOW!
**Congratulations!!**
You really tapped into the 50's, but interpreted it in such a fresh, bright, contemporary way!!
*Impressive!!*
About the 60's... (Heavens!!... I lived through it, but didn't "experience" it in the same way as some others did at the time! LOL!!)
I'd say that, by far, the British-Mod was closest to the "real" sixties, as experienced by the vast majority... most definitely!
(Can't wait to see what you do!!)
Blessings!!!

British Mod and the Sixties are intertwined in my mind...Beatles, long hair, Twiggy, VWs, screaming girls, the miniskirt, double decker buses, phone booths...Oh and with the Olympics being in London in 2012, "British" will be "in"!
Love this first line. Congratulations and keep the great designs coming.

Oh my these prints are amazing! Dare I start thinking about how I could use them when they won't be available in stores for three more months?

The 60s rock! The clothes had such interesting shapes - and I love the thought of English Mod designs OR beachy LA graphics. Can't wait for January!

I LOVE the line!! I already have baby quilts in mind just looking at it!

My first thought leans towards the free love hippy vibe - but British Mod would be super fun!
Denise Felton said…
OMG. Fan-freakin-tastic designs! Pick memememememem!

The British Mod idea rocks. Mondrian prints and Twiggy eyelashes, go-go boots and Jockey caps, men in striped bell-bottoms, and VW beetles covered with daisy decals. Oh, yeah. Major nostalgia for me. :)
Cristin said…
So stinkin' awesome! LOVE this line... I think the woodland friends,Tree Stripes, and Pebble Lines are my favs! Well done!
And I would die if I won the very first set of this fabric~ wooot!

Congrats on your fabric collection!I adore the chairs.

I dig the sound of the California 60's theme. After seeing the Mad Men episode where Don Draper takes off in a convertible to Pasedena circa 1962 I could imagine all kinds of inspiration for a really fun organic line.

Awesome!!!! I want every single print...And California 60's for sure.

I love the California 60s with the airstreams, etc. could be a lot of fun with the flowers and the puffy letters. Regardless, your fabric is way cool.

I was so excited when I saw your line of fabrics!!!! People often complain that organic fabrics are all off-white - I've found lots of organic fabric in colors but the prints are often more geared towards (conservative) adults. I've scoured the market for a very long time and rarely have I seen such bright, cheery and whimsical prints - they are perfect!!! I love, love, love the space, cars and woodland friends prints! I think either of your ideas sound wonderful and am hoping that you will ultimately make both! If I really had to choose, I would love to see the British Mod first and then the peace fabrics. Congratulations and best of luck to you!
Sonja said…
Please oh Please do a California 60's theme! Airstream trailers, woody station wagons, polka dot bikinis. Boy can I come up with a slew of things to sew for my kiddos with your 50's prints. Let it be me, let it be me........
Jennyroo said…
Oh wow, your new fabric line is going to be fantastic. Waiting until the new year will be difficult, but it gives us LOTS of time to plan some fantastic projects for my boys (and for me! the multi houses are far and above the favourite fabric print I have seen EVER). And I am loving that it is printed on organic fabric...

I like the California 60s idea - I will add to the waves and stars and palm trees - fruity fancy cocktails (I'm thinking umbrella straws in pineapple glasses) and colourful suburban houses with sculpted shrubbery (like Edward Scissorhands!).

Congrats again, I can't wait until the new fabric is available.

I love it all. Especially the Tree stripes print. And the cars and space print for my little guy.

The 60's was a bit (20+) years before my time, so I may be way off. But when I think of the 60's I think of the furniture/design elements and how they are totally coming back into style and I love it!

Your chairs and cars and houses are simply wonderful!! The British Mod would be perfect...that's my era...
saw the Beatles in concert, lived in England years later. Love the idea!
Just lost my job, will have more time to sew, sew, sew. I imagine sweet little clothes for my little grand-daughter...thanks for the fun!

Your new line looks great, I especially love the tree lines!

I think I would love california 60's. I love the idea of vintage trailers and those vw buses. Throw in some crazy flowers and a muted palette... yum!

I love this line! Can't wait to see it in person once it comes out!

I love the British Mod idea. But I love all mod!
Unknown said…
it must be so exciting for you, congratulations! I like the british mod theme best, although freedom has some potential to be awesome too
grrliz said…
First, this line is fabulous! Second, when I think of the 1960s I tend to think of it in the pre-hippy era of Cold War paranoia, the space race, men in horn-rimmed glasses, women's coats with big round buttons. I think British mod fits in here with it being more about style and plastics than the more natural, free wheelin' hippy kind of aesthetic.
Tamara said…
Your fabrics are awesome!! I vote for the Freedom Loving Vibe. Or for the retro birds, like one commenter suggested. I love birds fabrics.
Ange Moore said…
What an amazing giveaway and some beautiful fabrics!

I always think "Swingin' Sixties" and Austen Powers so I suppose that makes it British Mod!

So awesome!! I love every one - especially the woodland friends and the spaceships.
Definitely prefer British Mod over Freedom Loving Vibe!

I think of 60's surfers, and Little Stevie Wonder and stovepipe jeans and woodie wagons. Is that early 60's?

I LOVE your new line! Especially the cars and the tree stripes. And the houses?!?! So cool!
I LOVE ALL OF THEM!!! I think the cars is my favorite!!

I also think a spin on California 60's would be fun!!

Congrats....can't wait to get my hands on all these fun prints and colors!! My creative juices are already flowing!!

I love the tree trunks!

And I like the British Mod idea, too. I think the most important thing is the colour scheme. Stick to the current popular colour schemes and the pattern will be 'up-to-date', lovely and attractive to fans like me :-)

I do love Gidget aspect of the 60's... Mod & Woodstock never really registered with me...but I always loved Gidget- plus I don't think that's really been done yet :)
gorgeous! can't wait to get some chairs + houses... as for the next round, i am hugely excited about the prospect of trailers, bonfires, gidget!!! yippee! it could be so cute, just think of the colours + airstreams and all the awesomeness. whatever you decide i'm sure will be fantastic, tho!

Great new fabrics! The first thing that comes to mind for me regarding the 60's is actually phrases - Groovy, Far Out, etc. Lots of fun, bright, hot colors. Peace signs - tons of peace signs (which are completely hot right now - just ask my tweens, lol). Beatles and Beetles - haha. Tie dye. VW vans. Bubble letter graffiti. Psychadelic stuff. That enough?

I like the idea of cocktails or haircuts of the 50s and 60s..
I like Scandinavian designs -- they are hot! Funky mod flowers, birds...stay away from fruit (who puts fruit fabric on the couch), houses, chairs, etc..You catch my drift. I also just like plain organic things in punch colors -- circles, squares, circles in squares, etc. No hearts or things a long those lines either. Think Lucienne Day:)

Very best wishes and thank you for bringing such fun designs to organic fabric! Yeah! Love them all, but especially can't wait to get some of those Woodland Chain and Friends onto some cute kids clothes!

For your next line, all your ideas are ones I would buy. British Mod - that great flag, double decker buses, cool phone booths, the guards with the giant hats, the architecture of London Bridge, polo, garden maze. Sounds like something that hasn't been done yet.

The sixites makes me think of Beatles, hip sunglasses, go go boots, bead curtains, any psychodelic, the VW Bug (ours was sky blue), banana seat bikes, peace signs.

It'll be fun to see what you and Monaluna create next! Congratulations on the great job you did right out of the gate. May they sell out quickly!

Very cool fabrics. I wasn't alive in the '60s but thanks to Hollywood I think of smoking pot and burning bras.
Steph said…
Oh, these are AMAZING! When I think Sixties, I get two images in my head: 1) Families, BBQ grills (the flat charcoal kind, before the now-familiar rounded Weber shape), kids in polyester rompers running around, vacations in big station wagons and 2) London, Twiggy, Mod, white boots, short skirts, long straight hair and lots of dark mascara, leather jackets and bobble earrings. It's so hard to believe that both of these cultural movements were going on simultaneously. :)
OMG! I love these prints. Especially the woodland ones. They are so much fun. I have no problems waiting until January for them. It'll be a treat to make something fun out of them.
Lea said…
Congrats on the new line! My boys have been asking for a space blanket - they would love the space print (and I like it a lot, too!)
As for the future collection, I'm voting mod, not hippie.

LOVE LOVE LOVE them all! (Tree Stripes made me weak in the knees!).

I wasn't alive in the 60's... so I think my view is romanticized, but I think "free love" all the way. Just happy, hippie, earthy, dirty, bright and buoyant. I picture everyday being full of sunshine, music and community. Free-spirited dancing, long hair... I'm sorry I missed it! LOL.
annasoc said…
I think of so much with the Sixties: The Kennedy and MLK assassinations, Vietnam, Civil Rights, Woodstock. I was in grade school during that time, but even we were aware of all that was going on.

But I love the mod mid-century fabrics. I knew people who lived in ranch houses like the ones depicted on the second fabric. Such a fun set. I can't wait for it to be commercially available.
annasoc said…
ooops sorry. I would go with California Vintage.

the new fabrics are awesome! I am loving the california 60's idea - the colors could be great . . . or then again the British mod sounds good too - less color, more graphic. I'm sure either will be totally wonderful! good luck to you

Your own line?! That's wonderful and how enterprising of you :)

I think the Hippies 60s has been done over and over. While I like the Cali 60s idea, it says "summer" to me. I think the British Mod is the best way to go. Designs in that vein can be used year round for a variety of projects - apparel, as well as quilting and bags. I'm not a quilter, so I'm always looking at fabrics with the fashion eye. British Mod would be fantastic to build a wardrobe design around!
